    X-RAY: URBAN DECAY NAKED3

Brand founder Wende Zomnir on the third palette in her famously obsessed-about series.

Never has something dubbed neutral created such hysteria. With a dozen new offerings of muted pink, golden browns, soft bronzes, and shimmery coppers, Naked3 was met with the same frenzy as the first two, but, points out brand founder Wende Zomnir, it is very much its own animal: “Naked is filled with bronze-hued neutrals, Naked2 with taupe neutrals—Naked3 features rose-toned neutrals.” Here she walks us through the new palette, which includes a month’s worth of primer, and proves that good things really do come in threes. MELISSA LANE

    THE SHADES
“Like all of our Naked palettes, Naked3 includes matte, satin, shimmer, and glitter shades from light to deep,” say Zomnir. Her go-to shades? “I’ve been building looks based on Buzz and Blackheart.”

    THE SHADE NAMES
“The shade names add a dangerous element to the Naked3 palette,” says the beauty guru when asked about the dark—borderline seedy—theme of hues such as Trick, Liar, Mugshot, Nooner, and Burnout. “The shades may be neutral, but they are exciting and edgy, too. The names reflect that.”

    THE DOUBLE-ENDED BRUSH
“Use the fluffy side of the brush to apply your base shade, and use the smaller brush to line and add definition to your look.”

    THE CASE
“I love the decorative ‘3,’ and the rose-gold hue.”

    THE INSPIRATION
“My boyfriend took some shots of me in Carmel during what photographers call the golden hour—right before sunset. The light at that time of day is so flattering, and I wanted to try and recreate that effect with Naked3.”

    THE GET
Available on Sephora.com today and in stores December 12.
